2019 Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine International Society – AP Chapter and the 7th Asian Biomaterials Congress. 

ASBTE supported the 7th Asian Biomaterials Congress joint meeting with TERMIS-AP. Co-chairs Yin Xiao and Justin Cooper-White organised a great meeting with well over 800 attendees in Brisbane 14-17 October 2019. https://www.termis.org/ap2019

2019 ASBTE Conference 101 Workshop

With TERMIS-AP/ABMC fast approaching, the Victorian ASBTE E/MCR Representatives invited all PhDs and ECRs to a 'Conference 101' morning to help prepare and make the most of the conference!  The workshop was held on Tue., 24 September 2019 at RMIT University

 
2019 ASBTE ECR Workshop and Society Strategy Day.

This inaugural event to help shape the future of the ASBTE!  The first day focused on Early Career Researchers, with a workshop and opportunity to present research. The second day focused on strategy for the society moving forward, and included our Annual General Meeting.  Thanks to all who attended.  Some photos from the event are at the top of this page.

ASBTE Conference 2018

The 2018 ASBTE Annual Conference was held in Western Australia on 3-5 April 2018. This was the first time that our society held a meeting in WA and provided a fantastic opportunity to establish closer links with the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering community in WA, to visit a range of facilities and to learn more about the capabilities and research interests of our WA friends and colleagues.

ASBTE Conference 2017

The 25th Annual conference of the society was held in Canberra from 18-20 April 2017, where multiple researchers from India also attended for the jointly held 7th Indo-Australian Conference on Bio-materials, Implants, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine. More than 170 delegates participated and presented their work spanning from basic research to translational technologies and commercial developments. International visitor Professor Kevin Healy from the University of California at Berkeley presented an outstanding plenary addressing challenges and future impacts of organs on a chip as well as the future of precision medicine. Keynote presenters included both international guests, such as Dr C. Yoshikawa (Japan), Dr H.K. Varma (India), Dr N. Rajendran (India), Dr W. Paul (India) and Dr J. Rangasamy (India) as well as local presenters including Prof S. Iyer, Prof M. Aguilar and Dr A. Johnston, all of which highlighted advances in their fields of research. These encompassed biofabrication, stem cells, hydrogel production, antimicrobial materials, polymers in therapies, orthopaedic materials, neural systems and nanomaterials.

A special thanks to the conference organisers, Veronica Glattauer, Richard Williams, and David Nisbet, for organising an excellent conference.

World Biomaterials Congress

The World Biomaterials Congress (WBC) 2016 took place on May 17-22, 2016 in Montreal, Canada. Over 4,000 people from around the world attended this exciting event! The ASBTE presence was strong, making an excellent contribution to the congress. If you attended and would like to share some photos from the conference on this website, please contact Travis Klein.  The 2020 WBC will be in Glasgow, Scotland... and for those of you who really want to plan ahead, the 2024 WBC will be in Seoul, Korea. 

CONGRATULATIONS to Lisbeth Grøndahl, Keith McLean and Tony Weiss, who were awarded the honorary status of "Fellow, Biomaterials Science and Engineering" (FBSE) at the recent World Biomaterials Congress in Montreal. The Fellows are considered highly accomplished members and role models in the field of biomaterials science and engineering. The honorary status of FBSE was established in 1992 after the constituent biomaterials societies of the World Biomaterials Congress, now the IUSBSE, recognised the need for the public recognition of those of their members who have gained a status of excellent professional standing and high achievements in the field of biomaterials science and engineering.

 

ASBTE Conference 2015

The I5th International Symposium of Surface and Interface of Biomaterials was held in conjunction with the 24th Annual Conference of the Australasian Society for Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering (ASBTE) in Sydney, Australia on April 7-10, 2015.

Prof. Tony Weiss is currently Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Sydney. His research group at the University of Sydney is leading research internationally related to tropoelastin and synthetic elastin biomaterials.
