Postdoctoral Fellowship in Polymer 3D Printing of Medical Devices

CSIRO is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral fellow in polymer 3D printing of medical devices.

You will develop novel polymers for use in 3D printing of medical devices. 3D printing, the fabrication of 3D objects by printing them in a layer by layer process, is set to revolutionise manufacturing. Although polymers are ubiquitous, their use in 3D printers remains in its infancy. Current polymer resins have a limited range of properties well below those of their non-3D printed counterparts, and so are unsuitable for real-world applications. This project aims to develop new resins with properties suitable for medical devices.

Location: Clayton VIC, Australia Salary: $80K - $91K plus up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: 3 year specified term or part-time equivalent Reference: 48668

To be successful you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as organic and/or polymer chemistry, material science and chemical engineering.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct innovative research in chemistry and/or chemical engineering (polymer, organic, material science).

  • Demonstrated experience in general characterisation techniques, such as NMR, SEC, FTIR, UV-Vis, and familiar with culturing of cells and in vitro assays.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new instrumentation techniques.

  • Experience with and understanding of material characterisation techniques (rheology, TGA, DSC, tensile, flexural, DMTA, DSC, TGA).

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.

  • A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
